The Snarkery

Okay, yes, this is me asking for things that are a pain in the ass.

For whatever reason, we've had a spate of comment spam recently from people going through and leaving comments on like two-year-old posts. I have no idea what they think they're doing or how they're even finding the community, but it's driving me batshit. So I would be greatly appreciative if, here over the next couple of weeks, everyone could go back and lock their old posts. I am fully cognizant of what an enormous pain this is so you don't have to if you don't want to, but I'd appreciate it. Also, if anyone knows a way that I can lock everything by fiat I will be deeply grateful.

I'm not sure what to do about posts from people who aren't comm members. I can't lock comments on them, apparently; I may just delete them.

To make things easier around here, both for Mira and her flist, and those people watching who are non-members currently, I've made a Snarkery offshoot community (and here we thought only a couple of people were interested in snarking on HP originally!)

I think it would be nice to have a central place where we could put all the media reviews, our own reviews, and confirmations of spoiler information people like Roxy were kind enough to post in the first place. I haven't pre-ordered the book (an action I'm bitterly regretting now, caught up in the HP fever as always!) and I just hope Mira will will have nothing against starting a thread for people who want to spoil the rest of us. ;)

Okay, so, here's some I hadn't seen before. Of course, I never take anything as gospel until I read it myself, but some of it does match bits I've already seen here.

Mary GrandPre, who a resident of Minneapolis (I know someone who knows her), designed the poster for this year's Minnesota State Fair. I know this is only related to HP by the thinnest of threads, but the poster is pretty cool.

And for a HP question, not related to the current read-a-long -- Mr. Counsel works at for Large Chain Bookstore. They are going to have the obligatory midnight release party. I helped out with the last one, and never ever again. (Got a free copy of the book, though.) Anyhow, last time he was Hagrid. Any suggestions for other characters he could easily dress up as? He is kind of a big guy with a very full goatee, hence the Hagrid. I was thinking of dying his beard and having him go as Dumbledore. Since he is going to have to be there, I was planning at attending, in full Muggle-wear, but wanted to dress little Scooter up. Should he be BabyHarry or someone/something else? Mr. Counsel was thinking of having him go as BabyDraco except BabyCounsel has brown eyes. Suggestions are welcome. I will need the time to work out a costume.

I'm Mirabella. This community is for me and my friends to do a read-along. The only reason anyone not on my friends list even knows about the fucking thing is that someone well-intentioned I'm sure but paving the road to Hell nonetheless reported it to one of the fandom newsletters.

My friends and I - i.e., in case I didn't make this clear, the people for whom this community was set up - are snarky people. Hence the name of the place, which, you know, should have tipped you off that there would be things going on here that you don't like. We are snarky, and none of us much likes OotP. If you think this makes us bad fans, you just go on with your bad self and keep thinking that, because none of us cares. And frankly, none of you should give a shit what any of us says, thinks, or reads either.

So basically you're getting your bitch on about a private party my friends and I are having, to which you are not invited. If you really can't find anything else more pertinent to bitch about, I suggest you visit Fandom Wank. It might not always be terribly entertaining anymore, but people who go around looking for things to be indignant about generally find themselves spoiled for choice there.
